This is the profound story of the man forced to be the body double of the most hated man in one of the most notorious regimes of the last decades. After his escape from Iraq in 1992 more than 20 years ago, Latif Yahia still seeks asylum in many different European countries. Hunted down by the CIA and Udays henchmen for almost two decades, this is a man tired of running and evading. "If I knew then what I know now about the false democracies in the West, I would have preferred a bullet from Uday's gun, at least I would have been buried near my family in my country. Locked Up Abroad: Latif was so psychologically disturbed at losing his own identity and by the role he was forced to play he even tried to commit suicide.
He survived eleven assassination attempts and was wounded nine times by bullets meant to assassinate Uday.
When Uday also shot him in a fit of temper, Latif fled Iraq helped by the CIA.

The CIA were grateful for Latif's insight into the regime and wanted him to be their spokesperson on Iraq. But, as his family were still in Iraq, Latif refused and moved to Austria where he hoped to live a peaceful life.

To earn an income, Latif wrote the first version of The Devil's Double revealing his time as Uday's fidai. And exposing the darkest secrets of the Saddam regime to a shocked world.
For refusing to work with them, he was covertly imprisoned for nine months by the CIA and on his release he found a bomb under his car doubtless planted on orders of Uday who was to later murder Latif's father.
For the next few years Latif travelled around Europe, surviving other assassination attempts and trying to live undisturbed under a false identity.. Airs June 27th/2012 10P et/pt, National Geographic National.

Debate: the Title of the debate was (This House hates Human Rights) The debate took place in Cambridge Union Society, in UK 25/Nov/2010.
PROPOSITION:
1-Andy Hayman : was the highest ranking officer responsible for counter-terrorism in the UK whilst at London's Metropolitan Police, and was directly responsible for the investigation into the 7 July London bombings.

2-Peter Hitchens : writes for The Mail on Sunday. A former resident correspondent in Moscow and Washington, he appears frequently on radio and television, debating typically left-wing opponents on a variety of topics.

3-Charles Drummond : is a history PhD student at Trinity College. A graduate of Harvard University, Drummond was a liaison to national security fellows at the Kennedy School of Government and an intern at the American Bar Association, where he worked on issues of human rights law.

1-Philip Murray : is currently studying for a PhD in public law at Corpus Christi College, where he also teaches constitutional law. His research covers a broad range of constitutional issues, including human rights law.
