"A tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of SHEEP."
Latif Yahia, Author of The Devil's Double book and the Movie talks back.
In this video I answer the most popular questions that I have received through my website, emails and social media.
There are many perceptions of me, that I have made millions from my books and the movie, not true.
That since I fled Iraq my life has been safe, not true, either.. That the government of the country where I reside have provided me with protection and security, that's not true either, I have my own private security.
In my twenty one years in the West, I have not found democracy nor a country to call home and grant me citizenship, and so I am still stateless.
I could not and would not sell my soul, One man forced me to become something I wasn't and ruled my life, when I broke free of him I vowed never to be forced to do anything against my will again, be it by a single person or a country.
The Devil's Double:
This movie is based on my life story and my book The Devil's Double, it took 8 years to hit the screens and the parts of Uday and me are played by Dominic Cooper who did an outstanding job, while the movie sticks to the main points of my book and life story it is a "Movie" and some parts have been dramatized for cinematic effect (I did not ride into the sunset on horseback nor did I escape to Malta for example that was more to do with tax breaks). Overall I am very happy with the look of the movie, the pace and performance given by all the supporting cast.
I cannot however condone the decision of the producers to have me try and assassinate Uday in the closing scenes, it was in contradiction to my contract in which it was expressly forbidden for them to portray me as a "murderer" or "rapist", particularly as Uday is also missing his otherwise ever present gun in the scene. I was contracted to consult on the movie but that never really happened and I was only brought to set for promotion. These are just a few of the breaches of contract that I am dealing with. There has been much comment about the amounts that I was paid for my story, all I have to say is that the only people who made millions were the producers.
There is a saying "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it." that is the case with this movie, I had wanted to see my story on screen but I have found the cost to be too high, I have lost whatever safety I had, also my business as people are now afraid to deal with me, there is no income from the movie and even though the producers have no interest in making a sequel they are blocking anyone else from taking up the story. Since the release of the Devil's Double I have changed country four times and house eight. This is my answer to those that try to tell me I made millions, no, I didn't, the Producers did.
